Apolinário Libório Gomes was the first explorer of the Rio das Pedras. Seeing a fertile land with plenty of water, he stayed and built his farm, which, with development, became a village, belonging to the municipality of Jequié.
In 1960, a group of men led by Olival de Souza Andrade fought for the emancipation of the district, with the support of deputies Antônio Carlos Magalhães and Nelson Davi Ribeiro, and its autonomy has been recognized ever since. With its economic power governed by cocoa and agriculture, the city developed and today it is an interesting city, full of illustrious figures in its peaceful and happy routine.
